Fear of Commitment

Wishing, hoping, waiting for a commitment

Yet, not ready when it appears

Perhaps that’s why

You’ve been single for so many years

Cried so many tears

Hiding behind your fears

Covering your ears

And refusing to hear

The voice of The One

Who will give you what you need

They’ve planted the seed in your head

But you’ve said you’re not ready for this,

Or ready for that.

You say that you’re longing to belong to someone…

And them to you.

But the reality is…

When you are faced with it

You run

Scared

In the opposite direction

Pushing love away

Under the guise of

“I’m not ready”

“They are not The One”

You count their issues

And collect their baggage

Into a pile

Point at it and say,

“This is why I cannot accept you.”

And they are disqualified.

But the reality is…

That it is

You

That has the issues

You

That carries the baggage

You

That refuses to let your guard down

For fear of being hurt… again.

And the sooner you realize that

The sooner you can open up your heart

And start to let love in.
